چکیده
Abstract Visual climate indicators have become a popular way to communicate trends in important phenomena. Producing accessible visualizations for general audience is challenging, especially when many are based on graphics designed scientists, present complex and abstract concepts, utilize suboptimal design choices. This study tests whether diagnostic visualization guidelines can be used identify communication shortcomings specify effective modifications. Design were diagnose problems three hard-to-understand indicators, create improved modifications per indicator. Using online surveys, the efficacy of was tested control versus treatment setup that measured degree which respondents understood, found accessible, liked, trusted graphics. Furthermore, we assessed respondents’ numeracy, attitudes, political party affiliation affected impact improvements. Results showed simplifying had large positive effect understanding, ease liking, but not trust. Better designs understanding similarly people with different degrees numerical capacity. Moreover, while skepticism associated less subjective responses greater mistrust toward communication, modification equally across attitude ideological spectrum. These findings point as useful tool creating more engaging public.

Improving the Usability of Numerical Software through User-Centered Design
The software interface C whether graphical, command-oriented, menu-driven, or in the form of subroutine calls C shapes the user's perception of what software can do. It also establishes upper bounds on software usability. Numerical software interfaces typically are based on the designer's understanding of how the software should be used. That is a poor foundation for usability, since the featur...

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have become essential in industry, yet the potential value created through system use can be illusive due to poor usability. Extensive interviews with users revealed that the underlying complexity of these systems manifests itself in unintuitive interfaces that are challenging to use. Given the lack of progress made with traditional design approaches, ...

Predictive Web usage visualizations can help analysts uncover traffic patterns and usability problems. D espite major efforts in Web design research, many sites remain difficult to use. In a recent study of e-commerce sites, for example, users successfully performed only 56 percent of their intended tasks. 1 Forrester Research has reported that 65 percent of all online shopping trips end in fai...

Educating students in the formal sciences is a difficult challenge. It can be especially difficult when attempting to attract new students to a field when the fundamental concepts are not intuitive nor easy to comprehend such as computer science. The Laboratory for Computer Science (LoCuS) software system was designed to address the issue of teaching students difficult theoretical concepts that...
